Report on 1st Foundation Day Celebration of North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH)

The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH), Shillong, Meghalaya (An autonomous body under the Department of AYUSH), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India organized a day programme to commemorate the 1st Foundation Day Celebration of NEIAH on Thursday, June 2nd ‘2011 at the Auditorium of Old Guest House, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong.

June 2nd, is regarded as the Foundation day of NEIAH, Shillong although the project was approved and sanctioned by the Union Cabinet in 2008 but the Project actually came into action from June’ 2nd, 2010 for the establishment of this premier North Eastern Institute Ayurveda & Homoeopathy.

The Chief Guest for the 1st Foundation Day Celebration of NEIAH was His Excellency the Governor of Meghalaya Shri. Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary, who has inaugurated the celebration by lighting the ceremonial lamp and the Guests of Honour, Shri. Rowell Lyngdoh, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister & Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Meghalaya and Prof. A. N. Rai, Vice-Chancellor, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong accompanied him while inaugurating the celebration. Apart from that Commissioner & Secretary to the Govt. of Meghalaya, Director Health Services(MI), Government of Meghalaya, Director, NEIGRIHMS, and many other dignitaries and officials from Health Department and other organization, Principals, faculties and students of Government of Ayurvedic College, Guwahati and Govt. Homoeopathic Medical Colleges of Guwahati & Jorhat, different NGO representatives, general masses of Shillong and Meghalaya were present during the commemoration of the 1st Foundation Day Celebration of NEIAH.

The Director of the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy(NEIAH) while delivering welcome address, shared his experience being with this institution and how and why the NEIAH has been established in Shillong where as the proposal for establishing this National Institute was initially at Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh. Moreover, he highlighted the importance of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy in the present era and how the centuries old holistic systems of medical science can contribute to improve the health care scenario of the country. Apart from that, he shared the achievements of the Institution in this year and future projection of the institution in the health care sector as NEIAH will be one of the center of excellence in the field of AYUSH.

The Chief Guest of the Celebration His Excellency the Governor of Meghalaya after inaugurating the Celebration formally launched the official website of the NEIAH, Shillong by login to : www.neiah.nic.in and the website was officially launched for the general public which is the mouth piece of the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy where one can find all the information pertaining to NEIAH. The Chief Guest while addressing the august gathering on this auspicious occasion expressed his vast experiences how this holistic system of Indian medicine and Homoeopathy can contribute in the progress of the nation as a whole. His Excellency expresses his satisfaction over the achievement of the institution and commented that nothing more could have been achieved what NEIAH has achieved in this short span of time. Moreover, he stressed that more research based project should be adopted for the up-liftment of this holistic system of medicine, as often this system has been criticized by the allied professionals due to lack of proper researched studies. He expressed the hope the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH), Shillong, will promote and popularize the Ayurveda and Homoeopathy and will help to sensitize and create awareness among the general masses regarding the importance, effectiveness and potentials of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy in the North East. As this institutions will be a unique institution which will be independent and collocated beside NEIGRIHMS with multi-speciality where education and health care facilities through Ayurveda & Homoeopathy will be provided under one platform, hope the institution will boost the health care scenario of North Eastern States in particular and the nation in general in rendering quality health care services, improvement in the doctor-population ratio and R&D on bio-resources in the North East.

The Guest of Honour of the celebration Shri. Rowell Lyngdoh, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister & Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Meghalaya after releasing the Souvenir of the Celebration which was first souvenir of the NEIAHs publication where collective research articles and other information of the NEIAH is put forward for its dissemination to the general masses and the professional of medical fraternity. Shri. Rowell Lyngdoh while addressing the gathering has expressed his satisfaction over the performance of the NEIAH and appealed to all section of society to support and cooperate to nurture this newly established institution of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy which would provide health care services for the benefit of the general masses of Meghalaya. Moreover, he assured that the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Meghalaya will extend all possible cooperation for the establishment of this national institution of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy.

Prof. A. N. Rai, Vice-Chancellor, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong who was also the Guest of Honour of the celebration has released the News Bulletin of the NEIAH which was also the first News Bulletin of NEIAH to be published twice in a year where information and news of NEIAH and its progress will be highlighted. Prof. Rai while addressing the gathering praised the achievements of the institution and the sincere attitude of the officials of NEIAH. He expressed that more and more intra-research and collaborative researches with other medical institutions and allied institutions should be carried out in this sector of AYUSH i.e. Ayurveda & Homoeopathy. He expressed his willingness to provide affiliation to NEIAH for its various technical courses, provided it bears the expense for affiliation and other technical support after the affiliation considering NEHU’s financial constraints. And now onward any college which will apply for affiliation shall have to bear the cost of affiliation. Moreover, he expressed the hope that this premier institute will excel in the field of health care services and in quality education.

Distinguished invitee Prof. M.E. Yeolekar, Director, NEIGRIHMS expressed his gratitude to the Director NEIAH for inviting to commemorate the 1st Foundation Day Celebration of NEIAH. He expressed his satisfaction with the achievements of the institution and appealed that the same rhythm of achievement should be continued for the promotion of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy in the North East of India.

The 1st Foundation Day Celebration of NEIAH was concluded with the vote of thanks followed by refreshment.
