Report on CME Programme on PHARMACOVIGILANCE

The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH), Shillong had organized a one day CME programme on Pharmacovigilance of Ayurvedic Drug to sensitized and create awareness on adverse drug reaction to the Ayurvedic Physicians of the North Eastern Region on 29th October’2010 at Auditorium Old Guest House, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong which was sponsored by National Pharmacovigilance Resource Center for ASU Drugs, IPGT & RA, Gujarat Ayurvedic University, Jamnagar & Department of AYUSH, Minsitry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India
The CME programme was attended by Prof.(Dr). Umesh Ch. Sarma, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Services (SSUHS), Guwahati, Assam as the Chief Guest, who formally inaugurated the CME programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp where Prof. M.E.Yeolekar, Director of North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Science (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong & Dr. A.S. Kynjing, Director of Health Services, Government of Meghalaya, Shillong were present as the Guest of Honour, and 50 Ayurvedic Physicians of the North Eastern Region as delegate and other officials were present during the inaugural ceremony.
The welcome address was delivered by Prof.(Dr). S.P Bhattacharjee, Director NEIAH, Shillong where he hearty and warm welcome to all the dignitaries on the dais and delegate of the North Eastern State and he highlighted the need and intervention to sensitized the Ayurvedic Physicians on Pharmacovigilance and appealed to all the participants to be more vigil and sincere in prescribing the Ayurvedic Drugs, apart from that he appreciated the initiatives taken by the Government of India, Department of AYUSH for setting up of the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy at Shillong, Meghalaya thereby by promoting the AYUSH systems of medicine and cater the need of the general mass of the North East.
Moreover, he extended his gratitude and sincere thanks to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Services, Guwahati, Assam, the Director of North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Science (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong & the Director of Health Services, Government of Meghalaya, Shillong for accepting his request to attend the inaugural ceremony of the CME programme of Pharmacovigilance on such a short notice and sparing their precious time.
The Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony Prof.(Dr). Umesh Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, was privileged to be a part of this maiden CME programme on Pharmacovigilance organized by NEIAH, Shillong and he also threw. some light regarding Pharmacovigiliance in modern medicine and the need of today which is carried out on ASU drugs as well. Moreover, he stress need for organizing this type of CME programme on continuous basis to share the research experience of the invited scholars with the Ayurvedic professionals for the upliftment of the AYUSH system of medicine in the North Eastern region of India and he express his sincere acknowledgement and initiative taken by Prof.(Dr). S.P. Bhattacharjee Director, NEIAH in organizing the CME programme.
The Guest of Honour, Dr M.E. Yolekar, Director NEIGHRIMS first of all thanked the Director, NEIAH for being a part of the CME programme and express the need of collaborating with modern and Ayurvedic disciplines to work hand in hand for making the ailing society healthy and happy. And the Director of Health Service, Government of Meghalaya, Dr A.S Kynjing gave a speech regarding the oldest living health service i.e. Ayurveda which is always known for not having any side effect but lately the Pharmacovigilance of Ayurvedic drugs which was now to this part of the country which he said will help both old and new generation to use these drugs in the better way. He on behalf of entire health service of Meghalaya congratulated and wish all success for the CME and NEIAH, shillong should be a center of excellence of treatment through AYUSH system for the entire North Eastern region.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. B. K. Bharali, Asst. Director (Ayu) cum Organizing Secretary of the CME programme where he extended sincere gratitude and acknowledgement to all the dignitaries on the dais for attending the inaugural ceremony in such a short notice and to the delegate attending the CME programme from the North Eastern States.

At 4:00 pm, the valedictory session of the CME programme was conducted by distributing certificate of participation and a memento to all the participants as a remembrance of the the CME Programme on Pharmacovigilance by the Director of NEIAH. Before the conclusion of the CME programme, one participant from each North Eastern State also expressed their experience and the knowledge they have shared through the CME programme.
The programme was concluded with a light refreshment party and a photo session.
